Black Panther - #1 at the Box Office...Again
There are few things that are guaranteed in life. Death. Taxes. And Black Panther: Wakanda Forever being number 1 at the box office until it is replaced by Avatar: The Way of Water.
I’m pretty sure it was written down just like that somewhere. To the surprise of almost nobody, the Disney/Marvel Studios powerhouse, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, led the US Box Office with $17.59 million in gross this weekend. By next week the Ryan Coogler directed movie should cross over $400 million US box office gross recipts.
Coming in second for this weekend was Violent NIght with $13.3 million, which was above is projection of $10-12 million from most box office analysts.
Even with Black Panther Wakanda Forever in its 4th weekend of release, the US box office for all movies was a paltry $56.4 million, which is the 8th-lowest total of the year. Pre-pandemic in 2019, the overall box office gross for the first weekend of December was $90.3 Million.
Next weekend, Sony is re-releasing it’s Mark Wahlberg film, Father Stu, and Focus Features will be coming out with a new film Spoiler Alert. Also there will be a limited release of Brendan Fraser’s comeback movie from A24, The Whale.
