What Will Happen To Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2

The DC Universe is in a time of transition. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead the newly revamped DC Studios and shepherd the DC Extended Universe into the next era.

Feeling that it can reach the heights of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the DCEU is currently being re-imagined and reformulated to reach those lofty goals.

While fans would like to see the overall quality of the DCEU to increase. Many current DCEU characters have done well well with their own followings and movies.

2017’s Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot was a mega hit with over $400 million of domestic box office gross. 2018’s Aquaman fronted by Jason Mamoa was a global box office smash with over $1.1 billion worldwide. Even Black Adam during a year in which box office receipts are down 33% from 2019’s pre-pandemic levels, has grossed a healthy $384 million. Clearly the DCEU was doing something right.

However when new leadership comes into play, following the exit of Walter Hamada, they get the ability to remold the team and strategy into their image.

That has put into peril the fates of upcoming movies Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2. Gal Gadot posted a cryptic post earlier today saying she was “grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character” . If that was ominous enough she followed that up by saying she “can’t wait to share her next chapter with you” .

Is the next chapter Wonder Woman 3? Has she moved on? We just don’t know.

With Man of Steel 2, we all saw the Black Adam ending with Henry Cavill himself, teasing us about a new movie. Even Cavill posted on social media that he was coming back to the role.

But if there’s a shakeup in the DCEU, maybe even a recast, all of that could go out the window.

It will be sad to see some of the names and faces that we’ve grown to love over the years. While we’ve come to know many people to play Batman for instance, it seems to soon to recast the rest of the DCEU.

But ultimately the people will be the final judges of whether the current DCEU should stay or go and they will vote with their wallets.
