Best Movies of the Summer 2021

You’ve been on your best behavior all year. You’ve stood inside your house. You wore your mask. You rarely went in public places indoors. You got your vaccine. You did everything Dr. Fauci told you to do.

Now here comes your reward.

An unintended side effect of the COVID-19 pandemic is that so many good movies got pushed back and will all get released within a very short time.

Instead of having to wait months between movies you want to see, you’ll end up getting a barrage of new movies every week this summer.

If you are vaccinated, you can take your mask off, grab a popcorn and soda, and lounge into your oversized seat at your local movie theater to enjoy the best movies that summer 2021 has to offer.

A Quiet Place Part II

While you may know John Krasinski from his hit role in The Office, John Krasinski has developed into a top notch director. In A Quiet Place Part II (AQP2), Krasinski follows up his 2018 sleeper hit with a movie that’s……. worth waiting to see. Starring his wife and Academy Award winner Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place Part II continues the journey of the Abbott family as they navigate the outside world in their fight for survival in silence. Cruella

Over the year’s Disney has begun to embrace their classic villains. Riding high on the success of the Maleficent series with Angelina Jolie, Disney has decided to give the origins movie treatment to one of its most storied villains, Cruella de Vil. Originally the antagonist of the beloved Disney class 101 Dalmations, Cruella takes you on a journey to learn where Cruella de Vil came from and what made her become the villain that we all love. Starring Emma Stone as the titular Cruella, the movie opens this Memorial Day weekend on May 28 on both the big screen and Disney + with Premier Access.

In The Heights

Widely regarded as an early Oscar favorite, In The Heights is a movie that audiences will go to see over and over again. From the mind of Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, In The Heights transports you to the wondrous place of Washington Heights, located on the north end of New York’s Manhattan borough. Directed by John M. Chu, who also directed Crazy Rich Asians, the movie fuses magic and realism together in a movie musical that is sure to have audiences cheering, crying, and dancing. F9 - Fast and Furious 9

One of the highest grossing film franchises of all-time, the Fast & Furious movie sage never disappoints. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Audiences who love to be thrilled are going to love the third installment of The Conjuring franchise, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. This upcoming film takes viewers on chilling ride filled with terror, murder and the unknown. Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) helm this film that will follow one of their most jaw-dropping cases. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

It rabbit against nature, in this enjoyable sequel to the 2018 hit Peter Rabbit, based on the Beatrix Potter novels. In the follow up to the 2018 original, Peter Rabbit 2 has been waiting to spring into theaters for over a year. Featuring James Corden as Peter Rabbit, the sequel displays Bea, Thomas and the rest of the rabbits as a perfectly normal and happy family. However, Peter struggles to fight his mischievous nature. When the rest of the gang doesn’t appreciate Peter and all of his hi-jinx, he leaves the garden and finds a place where his qualities are celebrated. When Peter’s family comes searching for him, Peter must choose between his family and his world of mischief. Peter Rabbit 2 also stars Rose Byrne and Domhall Gleeson, with the voice cast of Elizabeth Debicki, Margot Robbie, and more.

Black Widow

After the success of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans around the world have been enjoying getting to know their favorite characters on a deeper level. Whether it was being immersed in the world of WandaVision with Wanda and Vision, or learning more about Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Marvel has taken great care to tell the stories of its characters in a captivating way. The latest entry into this foray is Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johannson, who gets her own film in Black Widow. Space Jam: A New Legacy

Move over Michael Jordan, it’s Lebron James’ turn to helm this beloved Looney Tunes franchise. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

GI Joe, one of your favorite Hasbro cartoons from the 80s, is back and bigger than ever. In the newest installment helmed by Robert Schwentke (Director of The Divergent Series: Insurgent & Allegiant), audiences will follow a lone wolf who’s taken in by the Arashikage ninja clan. As he struggles to confront the demons from his past, he emerges as the beloved hero “Snake Eyes”. Starring Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) as the title character, Snake Eyes rolls into theaters this July 23rd.

Jungle Cruise

Based off the famous Disney ride, Jungle Cruise follows a riverboat captain, played by action star Dwayne Johnson, as he guides a scientist, played by Emily Bunt, into the heart of the jungle to find the mysterious Tree of Life, which legend has contains magical healing powers. As any movie with “The Rock”, this movie is filled with action and excitement. Be sure to go see Jungle Cruise in theaters or on Disney + with Premier Access this July 30.
