Movies Coming Soon to Premium Video On-Demand (PVOD)
As the world has struggled to deal with COVID-19, entertainment has had to take new avenues in order to reach audiences.
One such avenue that has been on the rise since the start of the coronavirus pandemic is Premium Video On-Demand (PVOD). This service allows movie lovers to pay a one time rental fee to be able to watch the movie within a 48-72 hour window. Video on Demand (VOD) allows users to make a one time purchase of the movie and be able to see the movie at any time.
Since the various national quarantine and lockdown measures started in March, several films have already been released on PVOD and VOD such as Trolls World Tour, Scoob!, and The King of Staten Island. While those movies have had varying levels of success we are seeing new movies go with a PVOD/VOD release, even if accompanies by a limited theatrical run.
Here are some of the upcoming movies we expect to see on PVOD/VOD:
Bill & Ted Face The Music (VOD & Limited Theatrical Run)
This totally excellent duo will return 30 years after their original smash hit, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in their original roles, Bill & Ted Face the Music will be available on demand on Friday August 28, while also appearing in select movie theaters.
The One And Only Ivan (VOD - Disney+)
Disney+ continues to serve up new content with The One and Only Ivan which will be premiering this Friday August 21, 2020. This live action film stars Sam Rockwell who voices Ivan the Gorilla who spent most of his life in captivity and who longs to see the jungle.
Mulan (PVOD - Disney+)
The live action version of Mulan was expected to excite audiences back in March, but after many delays it will be released on Disney+ as the streaming platform’s first PVOD rental. You can enjoy the journey of young Fa Mulan as she goes on a journey to honor her father and defend her country of China in this coming of age adventure on September 4 exclusively on Disney+.
Antebellum (VOD)
Triple threat Janelle Monáe takes on her first leading role in Antebellum, a new movie about a best-selling author who is abducted into a life of stolen emancipation. You can see this new VOD release from co-directors Christopher Renz and Gerard Bush this September 18.
Black Beauty (Disney+)
See Kate Winslet as the voice of Black Beauty in this film adaptation of the classic Anna Sewell novel. While originally scheduled for theatrical releases it will be released on Disney+ soon.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run (CBS All Access)
He lives in a pineapple under the sea. Sponge-Bob Square Pants has been entertaining audiences for almost 20 years. See his feature film return in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On the Run. While it is currently running in select markets, including Canada, it will be move to be an exclusive release on CBS All Access in the US sometime in early 2021.
