Yes the first quarter of 2020 was able to bring us quality films that were enjoyed in the United States by English and Spanish speaking audiences thanks to availability on the TheaterEars app.
Here’s our list of the best movies that were released in movie theaters first during the year 2020:
Bad Boys For Life
They ain’t going nowwhere. They can’t be stopped now. They’re bad boys for life. Audiences loved the reunion of the ultimate bad boy cop comedic duo of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as they wade their way through the exotic Miami crime scene. Also starring Paola Nuñez, Kate Del Castillo, and Vanessa Hudgens, Bad Boys For Life opened up at #1 at the box office and is the highest grossing film of 2020 to date.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn
Lots of title meets lots of action in this female superhero film starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The female led cast is a nod to the growing influence of women within the DC Universe and the broader superhero genre of movies.
Sonic The Hedgehog
One of our favorite video game heros bursted on to the big screen with a number #1 box office smash. Sonic The Hedgehog follows the journey of Sonic as he lands here on earth and adapts to life in his new world, where his friendship with “Donut Lord” played by James Marsden provides the feel-good story that moviegoing audiences have come to enjoy. Also starring in this family friendly movie is Jim Carrey who delivers a show stealing performance as Dr. Robotnik. With the success of this original, could a Sonic and Tails sequel come to the big screen anytime soon?
Onward
Ian and Barley Lightfoot are brothers to the end in the animated family feature Onward from Disney Pixar. Starring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, Onward tells the story of two brothers’ quest to connect with their deceased father. Along the way the brothers encounter obstacles and face the realities that have prevented their growth. In the end, this movie is not to be missed and is sure to connect with audiences on an emotional level.
Other great films released in 2020 include LIke a Boss (starring Salma Hayek, Tiffany Haddish, and Rose Byrne) and Dolittle (starring Robert Downey Jr.).
